Sgt. Floyd Monument Sioux City, IA
This 100 foot high white stone obelisk memorializes Sgt. Charles Floyd, who died on the 1804 Lewis and Clark Expedition. This historic landmark was registered by the U.S. government in 1960. Located off Highway 75 near Glenn Avenue, the monument overlooks a breathtaking view of Missouri River.
Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center Sioux City, IA
Sign on as a member of the Corp of Discovery on America's greatest adventure by experiencing a day through the eyes of one of its members. 150-foot flag pole flies the same flag that was carried by Lewis & Clark.  Twice life size bronze monument on the grounds features the two Captains and Seaman the dog.

Sgt. Floyd Riverboat Museum & Welcome Center Sioux City, IA
Housed in a former survey boat used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, various models, built by Blair Chicoine, tell the story of the Missouri River.  The museum also contains exhibits about watercraft from dugouts and keelboats to paddlewheelers and tugs.  A life-sized forensic reconstruction of Sgt. Floyd is also housed in the museum.

"Lewis & Clark: An American Adventure" Sioux City, IA


Lewis & Clark: An American Adventure original mural exhibit is now open to the public all mall hours (Monday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays noon to 6:00 p.m.). No admission charge. 
This one-of-a-kind exhibit will then be on permanent display in the Southern Hills Mall and open to the public. It comprises 38 different mural paintings-each depicting scenes from the entire expedition.
Sioux City Public Museum Sioux City, IA
Housed in the 1893 John Pierce Mansion, a Romanesque structure, the public museum features exhibits on Native Americans, the history of Sioux City and natural history.  The building has housed the museum since 1961 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic Site Sioux City, IA
The Milwaukee Railroad Shops commemorates the "Spirit of Steam Railroading" in Siouxland.  Built in 1917, the railroad shops are currently under reconstruction for use as a railroad museum.  This historic site's major attraction is a 1909 Pacific-style steam locomotive.  Walking tours available on Saturday, weather permitting.

Woodbury Township Cemetery Sgt. Bluff, IA
This is the oldest cemetery in Northwest Iowa.  It can be reached from Lewis Blvd east on Cemetery Road.
Lewis & Clark State Park Onawa, IA
An old loop that was cut off when the river formed a new course years ago is now a 250-acre oxbow lake, Blue Lake.  The state park holds an annual Lewis & Clark Festival every summer.  Replicas of the Keelboat and pirogues used by the Corps of Discovery are docked at the lake.  Trails, camping and swimming are also available.

Located at Lewis & Clark State Park, the projected opening of the center is Spring 2004.  The primary focus will be on the boats of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.  The 20,000 square foot facility will house the famous keelboat and pirogues that are docked on Blue Lake during the summer.  The center will include displays related to the voyage.

Blackbird Scenic Overlook Onawa, IA
A scenic overlook that allows travelers a chance to see Blackbird Hill, the burial site of Blackbird, an Omaha Chief who died of small pox in 1800.  Lewis & Clark and ten men visited the burial site and erected a flag there.
Loess Hills Scenic Byway Western IA
More than 220 miles of roads create the Loess Hills Scenic Byway, which runs from Iowa's southern border to north of Sioux City.  The byway's main route is paved, although some of the loops use gravel roads as they pass cities and towns, farmland, woods and prairies, orchards, historic sites, overlooks and state parks.

Loess Hills Visitor Center-Gift Shop Moorhead, IA

Vogels Old Dutch Windmill Orange City, IA

This windmill replica built by Andrew Vogel founder of Diamond Vogel Paints demonstrates how paint pigments were ground with wind power.  The interior of the "home" is furnished with antiques from Holland.  Guided tours for large groups upon request.

VanderWel Tulip Test Garden Orange City, IA

A colorful array of over 6,000 tulips in various colors and varieties all imported from the Netherlands.  Order maybe placed May through June.  For groups tours of 15 or more a Dutch cheese and fruit buffet with beverage and an explanation of the tulip is available.
