| A 1500-acre park in the Missouri River basin. The homestead was established in 1872 includes the family farmhouse, a historic barn, log cabin, the Lamont Country School and Stavenger Church. | Two reaches of the Missouri River are protected. The 39-mile reach between Fort Randall Dam and headwaters of Lewis & Clark Lake still exhibits the river's dynamic character in its islands, native flood plain forest, and bars. The 59-mile reach between Gavin's Point Dam and Ponca State Park still features islands, bars, shoots and snags. | Located on top of historic Calmut Bluff, the center offers a fantastic view of the Missouri River and the Lewis & Clark Lake area. | Spirit Mound | Vermillion, SD | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This mound is famous because Lewis & Clark visited it after hearing tales that it was guarded by spirits who ere said to be 18 inches tall. Area Indian tribes did not visit it for that reason. Located on Hwy 19 six miles north of Vermillion. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
